Interior Painting, Blue Bell, PA: Decor Tricks to Brighten a Dark Room

Do you ever walk into your home in Blue Bell, PA, and think, “This space is so dull and boring”? White walls and tired furniture are very popular in small apartments and homes, but this leaves a lot to be desired.

If you’re looking to brighten up a room that is dull or just a little on the dim side, try this mix of beginner tips and excellent ideas for bringing in more light and maximizing what you already have.

Repaint the Walls

Repainting your interior is the easiest way to instantly brighten up a dull and dark space. The eggshell, cream, and other shades of white reflect light and make your space seem larger and look brighter. If you’re painting over dark colors with a light color, be sure to use a primer.
If you don’t want to paint, you could alternatively install a bright-colored, reflective wallpaper.

Replace your carpet

Consider replacing dull, worn-out carpet with laminate flooring or light-colored flooring. Laminate flooring looks like wooden flooring, but it is much cheaper.

Update light bulbs.

Besides changing your carpeting, you can also choose to update your light bulbs to a brighter output and a cooler “daylight” color tone. Warmer, yellow lights, create a beautifully warm, intimate atmosphere, but if you’d prefer a brighter and fresher look, try a “true white” bulb.

Buy light-colored furniture and seat upholstery.

Cream, ocher, and sky blue provide a sunny brightness to any room. Dark furniture in black, anthracite gray, or dark brown leather will absorb more light and reduce your other brighter efforts.

Add mirrors.

Here are some creative ways to enlarge, brighten, and style a room with mirrors.

• Find antique mirrors and hang them close to each other. This will give an artistic effect and capture the light that spreads around the room.
• Use a tall, narrow mirror on a large wall to enlarge the room. Put it in front of a large window so that it can capture more light from the outside and reflect it in your room.
• Take several small square adhesive mirrors and cover a wall where you would like to have a window. That will give the illusion of an additional window.
• Put horizontal mirrors in a hallway or in a corner.

Include Glass Décor

A glass or mirrored coffee table, a crystal wall decor, or a large vase can increase the feeling of more space in a room while capturing more light. Consider replacing the handles on your furniture and doors with glass handles too.

Provide Balance.

Ultimately, it’s crucial for a room to have some natural interplay between light and shadow, as the highlights and lowlights are appealing to the eye. Nobody likes the look of a super-bright big-box store with perfectly even lighting in harsh fluorescents. Add lights to brighten up dark corners, but don’t go overboard. A few shadows mean your space has depth, and a sense of life, that makes it feel like a home.
