The different types of water-based paint
The paints are divided into two large families, namely water-based paints and oil paints. The former is diluted with water-based solvents.
Little harmful and almost odorless, water-based paints are also affordable. Water-based paints dry quickly, although their tackiness is relatively low. This family includes different types of paints.
Acrylic paint: this product consists of an essentially water-based solvent. Slightly harmful, this type of paint is mainly used to paint interior walls. It is particularly recommended for carrying out painting work in a bedroom. However, its use is not recommended for ceilings.
Alkyd paint: this type contains an alkyd resin used in oil paints. Using this as oil paint, this product is particularly resistant and not very toxic. Applying in a single coat, the paint can be used both indoors and outdoors. It can also be applied in any room of the house.
Vinyl paint: this product is made from a mixture of acetate and vinyl resin. It is mainly used to make an effect on painting. Combined with oil paint, vinyl paint allows you to create original effects and is applied mainly to plaster.
Also, this product is used as an undercoat on a porous support. By mixing it with another type of paint, it is possible to apply it outdoors or indoors.
The Different Types of Oil-Based Paint
Oil paints dilute with chemical solvents. This product category is appreciated for its high covering capacity and high resistance.
Oil paints, however, are more expensive and more toxic than water-based paints. Like the latter, this family includes different types of products.
Epoxy paint: this type of product combines an epoxy polymer binder and a hardener. Particularly resistant, epoxy paint can be used indoors, on walls, and the floor and ceiling.
Besides, it is suitable for different substrates such as concrete, wood, tiles, or even PVC. This type of paint can also be used outdoors.
Glycerophthalic paint: this product is composed of glycerophthalic resin. Although it is possible to use it indoors, it is advisable to apply it only outdoors due to its high VOCs or volatile organic compounds.
Polyurethane paint: this product consists of a polyurethane resin base, a chemical solvent, and a hardener. There is also a version in the aqueous phase. Often used to paint the floor due to its resistance, this paint can be applied indoors or outdoors.
Whether you choose a water-based or oil-based paint, avoid painting on a chipping surface to avoid adhesion problems.
